JibLab Update

We're super excited for the start of the season and all the awesome events scheduled to take place at the park this year, including the return of the TransWorld Snowboarding TransAm. The crew at JibLab has been busy designing event setups and will introduce a new feature at each event.

In the meantime, we caught up with Jon to see what's good in the land of rails and boxes. Not too much needed to be said, as sparks were flying, paint was drying and rails and boxes were making their way into the beds of pickup trucks and moving to South.

Grinding burrs.

Welding angles.

Stacking features.

Bringing back the Red Bull wall ride and all your favorite features.

Check back throughout the season for the latest event updates, photos and videos.

We hope the early snowfall is an indicator of amazing riding weather to come this season. Forecasters are calling for another La Nina weather pattern, which could bring epic snowfalls to the Northeast. We can't wait. This year is going to rock!

Don't Worry, You're in Good Hands

At Mountain Creek we pride ourselves on the reputation of our terrain parks. We've been applauded for our terrain park features and designs; and now, we can add park safety to our growing list of badges with the National Ski Areas Association's (NSAA) award for "Best Terrain Park Safety Program."

The NSAA Safety Awards are given out annually to those resorts that have done an outstanding job of educating employees and guests about skiing and snowboarding responsibly. Our terrain park safety initiatives include: the requirement of all park visitors to complete a Park Pass safety program and quiz, dedicated learn-to freestyle terrain and instruction, constant terrain and feature monitoring and a strict helmet policy for all employees and guests taking freestyle lessons.

Red Bull Super Hit

The closing weekend of Red Bull Super Hit went off under blue skies and warm temps at Mountain Creek in Vernon, New Jersey on Saturday, February 26th. Red Bull Super Hit marked the first-ever freeski event that has come to Mountain Creek from outside the mountain.

The group of skiers that showed up to compete ran the gamut from grom to rising local pro and hailed from NJ, PA, and VT. Mountain Creek built a signature feature for the day that featured a clear-walled Red Bull wallride on top of a large hip, enabling competitors to pick their line and hit the feature in a large variety of ways. The sunny skies and impressive trickery of the competitors drew the attention of everyone whether they were riding by on the trails or hanging out on the porch of the KINK bar.

After all of the backflips, huge spins, and creative rail jibbing that went down during the two 25-minute heats and 25-minute finals, it was Peter Engen who won the contest and walked away with a paid trip to compete in the Dumont Cup in March at Sunday River, Maine. Peter also won a pair of skis and a prize pack from the event sponsors. Second and third place won tons of prizes as well, and a Best Trick was awarded, earning another pair of skis. A product toss for competitors and spectators finished the event, with tons of smiles ending the picture perfect Mountain Creek day.

Red Bull Super Hit & After Party

In a typical slopestyle or halfpipe event, competitors play it safe in order to assemble a top-to-bottom run, holding back on their biggest moves in favor of consistency.

At Red Bull Super Hit, skiers will throw everything they have into one hit, blasting their highest air or their most technical dream trick when they’re at their freshest and strongest.

After party follows the event at KINK. 21+ at 10pm.

Snowboarder Mag Superpass

Excerpt from Pat Bridges, Snowboarder Magazine:

As much as we’d like to describe the first stop of the 2011 Superpass Superpark Qualifying Series as being a heated competition the seemingly sub arctic temps prohibit us from making any references that would lead readers to believe the conditions were the least bit hospitable. Wind would add to the contentious atmosphere and cause attrition to take place pre registration. Nonetheless dozens of New Jerseys finest jumpers arrived bright and early at Mountain Creek to partake in their chance at a Superpark invite as well as the heaps of prizes provided by Volcom, Capita, Electric, High Cascade Snowboard Camp and Bag Jump.

The terrain park staff at Mountain Creek went beyond the requisite triple line requirements which was requested to 25, 35, and 45 feet respectively. Rather than settle Mountain Creek stepped up and provided the Superpassers with a textbook 25 foot booter, complete with squared sides to a classic 35 foot step down gap. This gap was rad. Normal tricks looked three times as high and the perceived consequence afforded by the vertical cut uphill edge of the knuckle added drama to every attempt.

By showing skill, composure and creativity on each feature Brett Stewart set himself apart from the pack. This fall Brett Stewart will be joining snowboarding’s elite at Superpark.

Frendly Feature Winner

It came down to 3 finalists chosen by Frends and secret ninjas at Creek. Our legion of 20,000+ Facebook fans voted, trash talked, voted some more... and trash talked even more than that. After the dust settled, Matt Nametko’s creative trapezoid ledge hybrid butterbox feature was named the winner and will debut on the slopes this season. Congrats, Matt. And thanks to everyone else you submitted an entry. Can't wait to shred the new feature.

Frends... It's time to pick a winner.

Creek and Frends sifted through all the entries from the awesome to the absurd to narrow it down to 3 Finalists.

Finalist 1: Tom Buchtman, "Kink Butter box, Kink Creeper, High Kink box, Down Creeper with Stairs"
Finalist 2: Lauran Barinsky, "My Frends House"
Finalist 3: Matt Nametko, "battleship box, pyramid bank, and butter boxes"

We thought in the spirit of community and in keeping this a contest for the riders, by the riders, we’d open the final voting up to our Mountain Creek fans on Facebook.

All designs submitted by our finalists will be labeled on Facebook so you know who and what you're voting for. Design with the most “likes” by Friday, January 14th will win. Best of luck.

See the album of entries here.
